For the 5th time Jan Lammers will participate in the monster rally Le Dakar. This time with Thomas de Bois as his navigator, Thomas gathered most of his experience during his participations on a motorbike but now he climes on board of the Dutch build Ginaf Truck to have a view from the ‘second floor’. Roelof Blankespoor completes the 3 man squad as the dynamic mechanic because in this discipline the mechanic actually takes part in the race rather than waiting in the pits for the action. The start is in Rosario Argentina on the 5th of January and the finish is on the 18th in Valparaiso Chile.
Our truck should be able to run anywhere been the 10th and 20th position in the rally but it all depends on how much risk you take and also how the new entered trucks perform, when they proof to be reliable than they should be very fast but some, like for example the new Ginaf four wheel steering trucks from Wuf and Edwin van Ginkel and Jos Smink have done very little or no running. They’re my ‘big brothers’ in the Ginaf family and lets hope they stay out of trouble.
The competition is largely decided by how much risk you take though. With a lot of input and risk we could sniff on the top ten, but taking the safe road should only drop you back 2 or 3 places making it more plausible to reach the finish which is always the ultimate award. If we manage to be in the top 20 every day than this could add up to a nice end result and most important it will add miles to my experience which I hope one day I will be able to use and run for the top spots!
The motorbikes will visit Bolivia for the first time. You can read all about this fascinating event on www.dakar.com and follow our progress also by downloading the Le Dakar 2014 smartphone apps.
